There is more written about this subject than there are days in our lives to read all of it.  And on top of that, it all usually tells us something different.  Having spent decades studying, weeding through and/or trying most of the latest and greatest diets and nutritional programs, Dr. Kinnear and Tereasa have come to one conclusion.  Natural is the way to go.  Not the, "this sugar filled pie from the grocery store is natural", natural variety.  Natural as in, 'as close to nature as possible', natural.  A simple way to remember what that means when you are reading labels while shopping in those never-ending aisles of food and so-called food is:

  1. The less processed the better.
  2. Fresh is good.
  3. Organic is better.
  4. Fresh, organic and raw is best.
  5. As few ingredients* as possible. (*Spices-Have as many as you wish.)
  6. Words that you can pronounce and recognize as if they were from a recipe in a cookbook.
  7. Avoid anything that sounds like it is a chemical, especially artificial sweeteners and MSG.  These are highly toxic to the body and addictive in the brain.  Flavor enhancers trick our brains into telling our bodies that foods taste better than they actually do.
  8. Steer clear of high fructose corn syrup.  It is begins in a lab with sulfuric acid and is being linked to obesity.  The documentary film King Corn gives you a witty and thorough perspective on this topic.
  9. Seek out non-GMO(Genetically Modified Organisms) food.  Mother Nature knows she's doing and has had it right all along.
  10. Non-GMO soy products should only be consumed if they are fermented.  Example- Miso, Tempeh, Natto, Soy sauce, Tamari, Bragg's Liquid Aminos.  Growing evidence is suggesting that soy milk, soy formula, tofu, etc. are linked to thyroid disorders, cancer, and other unwelcome conditions.
  11. If you eat red meat, choose grass fed, preferably organic.  Lamb is closer to nature than beef.
  12. For poultry eaters, free-range without hormones/antibiotics is best.  Turkey is more natural than chicken.
  13. Variety is the spice of life.  Be adventurous-eat a wide array of healthy, natural, beautiful food.
  14. Above all, enjoy what you are eating and take time to savor your food.  Chewing slowly and thoroughly allows for better digestion.
